The following is a statement written by Kondanani’s Founder and Executive Director, Annie Chikhwaza in November 2021.

It has come to my attention that one of our volunteer leaders at Kondanani has been accused of indecent assault. This person was arrested on Thursday 4th November 2021 and is on bail pending a court case. The charges relate to inappropriate behaviour with two women aged (22, 23) who have grown up at the orphanage.

At Kondanani, we have a strict safe-guarding policy in place to protect all our children and have zero tolerance to any form of sexual misconduct or abuse of leadership position. The person was therefore removed from their position with immediate effect and their home on the premises was vacated.

We have fully investigated what happened and where our safe-guarding policy was broken to ensure this doesn’t happen again. The safety of all our children is our primary concern. We ask our supporters to pray for justice for all concerned.

We have offered support to the women involved. Plus Kondanani is co-operating fully with the local authorities and ensure we keep the network of charities that support us updated as this matter progresses through the courts.

Should you wish to raise any concerns please email us at safeguarding@kondanani.org.
